Mercedes have changed their entire development plan, and the reason is Ferrari. According to AutoRacer, Brackley's original idea was to halt development of the W17 at the summer break and throw the whole budget at the 2027 car. Ferrari's recovery buried that plan. Development now continues after the break, with a second major package in production. The numbers behind the panic: eight tenths of cumulative gain from the SF-26 across aero packages, engine, software and energy management, with an ADUO 2 upgrade token still up Ferrari's sleeve. Mercedes are bringing only low-drag tweaks to Spa; Ferrari plan a third macro-package for Zandvoort. Mercedes spent in winter to start a second clear. Ferrari saved to spend all year.
